Dr John McLellan from GMEX presented a very interesting paper at the recent AUSIMM 10th International Mining Conference in Hobart, enlightening the audience to some of the most recent applications of geomechanical modelling to the Ernest Henry Cu-Au mine in northwest Queensland. This most recent presentation highlighted the need for companies to gain a better structural and geomechanical understanding of their deposit and surrounds. Understanding the structural architecture, and the deformation events responsible for the mineralisation event, can provide innovative datasets that can used in target generation and drill planning. Recent results have now been incorporated into drill planning for the year ahead, and its value as a critical step in any companies exploration program is paramount...
