Dr John McLellan from GMEX presented a very interesting paper at the recent AUSIMM 10th International Mining Conference in Hobart, enlightening the audience to some of the most recent applications of geomechanical modelling to the Ernest Henry Cu-Au mine in northwest Queensland. This most recent presentation highlighted the need for companies to gain a better structural and geomechanical understanding of their deposit and surrounds. Understanding the structural architecture, and the deformation events responsible for the mineralisation event, can provide innovative datasets that can used in target generation and drill planning. Recent results have now been incorporated into drill planning for the year ahead, and its value as a critical step in any companies exploration program is paramount... The paper is available for download in the publications section.
GMEX and Dr John McLellan delivered the main project outcomes from a 12-month research project focused in Mt Isa Inlier, northwest Queensland. This project “Advanced Understanding of Structural and Geochemical Controls on Mineralisation in the Eastern Mt Isa Inlier Using Innovative Techniques for Exploration” commenced in July 2015. The project used a combination of geomechanical modelling and a geochemical and structural focus on Cu-Au deposit styles and their host rocks applied to the eastern Mount Isa Block, Queensland’s premier metalliferous mining district. The novel approach of the geomechanical modelling is intended to provide an alternative but complementary dataset for exploration geologists to include within and to revitalize their targeting strategies. The reports and datasets are now available through the GSQ QDEX interface, you can locate this by searching for Report number 99142.
GMEX and Dr John McLellan was involved in 3 paper presentations at the AUSIMM 9th International Mining Conference in Adelaide, following up on successful paper presentations at the World Gold Conference in the previous year. The most recent presentation papers presented innovative structural and geomechanical techniques used in target generation for the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine, the Red October Gold Mine, and the Mt Isa Copper Mine. Recent drilling success has provided even further validation of the applied techniques, and cemented its value as a critical step in any companies exploration program.
